We are happy to announce that OpusVL have been awarded Business of the year 2018, and our CEO awarded Business Person of the Year.
2018 marked the 6th year that the annual Pride of Rugby awards have taken place. These awards celebrate the best businesses in the region, along with individuals who have made contributions to the community. OpusVL were delighted to be selected as finalists in two categories for the second year in a row. We were short-listed for both Business of the year, and our CEO also short-listed for business person of the year. We are proud to announce that we brought home not one, but two awards.
This is due to several factors, such as the our charitable work, projects of significance, and business growth. However, the very first thing we must mention is our staff. Every member of our team has contributed towards the companies success and each individual brings something innovative and creative to the organisation. When we recruit people, we don't just look at the skills of a person, we look at what they have the potential to become, what drives them and whether they fit our companies ethos. Through this we have created an open and entrepreneurial culture which underpins our companies objectives of shared and open source software.
Historically, organisations would purchase off the shelf, closed-source software. For some, this worked well. But over time, organisations have found that they need to evolve unique offerings and processes to stay ahead of competitors. These unique or complex ways of working often mean that ‘out of the box’ software, is not able to fulfil all of a company’s requirements. Therefore it is quite common to find multiple systems being used within one organisation, requiring manual data entry and greater likelihood for human error. Open Source was selected by OpusVL because it is fully customisable, as the code can be viewed and exported to allow bespoke systems to be developed around a company’s unique ways of working. Through adopting a process-led approach, and careful scoping exercises, we set out to build software which fits around our customers’ businesses. This customer focus was one of the reasons why we have been recognised by these awards.
This year, we have put more effort into supporting local schemes and charity in line with our company ethos. This has meant implementing a better recycling policy throughout the office, working to build a cleaner and greener town. We have also been organising several fundraising activities throughout the year to benefit local charities. This year we selected Hope4 - a charity in Rugby which supports homeless people. We have organised events in the office, such as Pyjama Day, team lunches and Pancake Day. We have also collected and made donations to the food bank in Rugby to support hungry and less fortunate individuals.
Thank you to the team at RugbyFM and Coombe Abbey for putting on a great event and congratulations to all the other winners and finalists, its uplifting to see so many great businesses and individuals in our local community.
